out of curiosity, what else are you running? That's a killer DAC, good luck with your search
I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

Looks nice, does anyone know if HDCD encoding survives the transfer to FLAC? Most of the Dick's Picks, etc. have the HDCD logo on them, now that they have been converted to flac and played off my server, would a dac like this recognize the signal as HDCD?

No idea about the Berkeley, but the new Bel Canto DAC3 looks very well engineered!

Teddy,

Have you listened to the DAD unit?

This is in about the same price range as the BADA [base unit I believe is $5K upto $20K].

I have used their modular system before on a remote recording(when I was living in Heidelberg) and thought that the sound quality was superb, practically invisible(what a good DAC should be imo). I was very impressed. The mic amp is also very nice, and for a taper, the package should be a dream(great mic amp and ad/da in one). I know that the DAD has quite a few devoted users and pretty much every review ive seen is very favorable. I would certainly use it in my system, and when/if my mytek ever dies, I may grab one. DAD, the StageTec "True Match" and Mytek Stereo 96 are the only 3 DACs ive used that ive been thoroughly pleased with.

not that it's in my budget, but it should be mentioned that Nagra makes a very formidable DAC
