Edirol R09 and AA rechargeable batteries
« on: May 21, 2008, 01:16:49 PM »
Just got a PQI 16 GB sdhc card.  Thought I see if it worked with the R09, so I hit record and let it run until the batteries ran out.  Well the card works, R09 chopped out tracks (2h:15m:11s) at the 2GB limit flawlessly, for I was recording @ 24/44.1.  No preamps or mics involved, just the R09 and its onboard mics.

The stunner:  got 12 hours 49 minutes and 6 seconds on a pair of Energizer 2650mah AA rechargeable batteries.  Wow!   :o

Wow . . . and I've been swapping out batteries around the three-hour mark.  What a waste of power.  :P

On this thread, tms got 11 hours 32 minutes on 1 charge.  So its proven.  However, as the bats gets used, the runs times get shorter over time.    ;)

Since you've brought up the subject, how long do you keep using a set of rechargeables?  I've got a cheap set that came with my R-09 and they've lost about half of their capacity since I've had 'em.  I have a battery charger/discharger and it shows the mah levels and they're down near 1100 now.  Should I toss 'em once they go under 1000mah?

I use mine till I don't feel comfortable that they will make a complete show . Than they get used in my flashlights.

Sometimes if you drain them completely (like in a flashlight over night), then recharge them, the capacity might be restored some.

And don't just toss them, drop them off at anyone of many stores that accept them for recycling. ;)

I discharge the batteries for my R-09 after each show with my charger/discharger.  I take a lot of pictures at shows and sometimes shoot video with my camera (it uses AA's too) so I discharge those batteries too and they've held their mah level better than the ones for my R-09...but the main problem with those is that they're cheap no-name batteries (I have Kodak AA's for my camera).  I just got my "stimulus check" in the mail today, so to stimulate the economy I'm gonna pick up some new rechargeables tomorrow.
