DIY component video cables?
« on: July 04, 2008, 02:40:05 AM »
i just got a new tv (welcome to the 80s!) and ive got a canare coax cable crimper, and some lv61s 75ohm cable. any reason this wouldnt make some decent component cables? we dont have any HD sources, so HDMI is out, failing that, component is better than Svideo which is better than ant/cable, right?

is there a better spec cable to make component cables out of?

Hi,
Got this info off of wikipedia...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaxial_Cable

LV61s is an RG-59 spec cable...
used to carry baseband video in closed-circuit television, previously used for cable television. Generally it has poor shielding but will carry an HQ HD signal or video over short distances.

RG-6 has a larger internal core and better shielding. RG-6 would be a better spec cable.

i work for the cable company.  do not use RG-59.  rg-6 has far less signal loss over any distance, and is 100% more stable for HD down the road(you will convert eventually as we all will, its where the future is going).

...but yes, no reason that this wouldnt make great component cables.  i make these for people who have projectors mounted in the ceiling far from the their cable box, and they work like champs for long runs!
