IRiver IHP-120 Battery Life (Taping Upcoming Festival)
« on: July 30, 2008, 03:56:40 PM »
Hello I am planning to tape All Points West Festival On Friday August 8th.

Of course I am not trying to tape the whole festival, but I'd like to get a good portion of bands, maybe 5-8 hours I'm guessing?

I have two Irivers, they will both be fully charged, I don't think this should be a problem, but can anyone who has run their Iriver for a festival without external power please comment on how long she lasted.

thanks

After I combed through innumerable threads and ran countless combinations of phrasing, I took to posting this exact question.  I asked this question twice in two separate places in the past two days.  The exact question you're asking has not been more than six threads down in the Remote Power section, and the most recent dialoguing in Team iRiver is focused on addressing my inquiry.  Search first!

Use WAVPACK-format which lets you record even longer than WAV!
And with the CF-card-mod 15-16 hours recording in WAV should be no problem.
1st: SONY PCM-M10 + DPA 4060's + DPA MPS 6030 power supply (microdot)
2nd: iPhone 5 + "Rode iXY" microphone/"Zoom IQ5" microphone

Yeah I don't need any of that info. I dont need external power, it is only 1 day, it is gonna be less than 11 hours (the whole festival is 11 hours).

I just want to know from other IHP-120 users, how long they have ran a normal IHP-120 in normal 16 bit 44.1 WAV from full charge to being dead?

thanks

On a new 2200mah battery, I got approximately 8 hours and still had some battery life left.  No idea how much longer I could've went.  This was about half line-in, and half optical in.  Hope this helps.

It really is a crapshoot cause the batteries (if stock) are getting quite old....  Why not just put together a AA battery sled?

I think it would cost about $5-6 US from radio shack... Just an idea.

Thanks Dgodwin.

Because I have two recorders that will be MORE than enough time.

I am not really gonna ever tape a festival again, much less anything so no use in even doing the $5-6 dollar thing

Don't irivers have a counter of possible battery life remaining?
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

Rockbox has an estimation based on current voltage, but it is a guess.

Why don't you run a test for yourself?  Put a song on your computer running endless repeat, run a line into the iRiver, hit record, and go to bed.  The recorder will save the file before it shuts down and viola....or you could run the Rockbox Battery test....

i recently plugged my iriver into a sbd and left it for 9+ hrs on record.

came back, and it had enough battery left that i could listen to some tunes on the way home.

Fresh 2200mAH will go 12+ hours optical in (my experience).  My guess is that a 2200 going line in will do a min of 7-8 hours line in.  The stock 1300mAH one, don't count more than 4-5 hours tops line in.  Two iRivers (1300 or 2200) will do you for the whole day....
