VR Box for iRiver?
« on: February 05, 2009, 08:54:24 AM »
I Just picked up an iRiver in the yard, wondering if my VR box will work with it. I have a bumblebee VR box wired for running a UA-5 & JB3 off wally batts. The iRiver takes 5v just like the jb3, correct? Is the plug the same? Probably not huh? Can this be wired with a new plug to work with the iRiver?

Thanks

I don't think it's the same size plug as the JB3, but yes you could probably rewire it to a new plug.  Be VERY careful making power connections for an iRiver... if you get it backwards your iRiver is junk, so check and double-check with your meter to make sure it matches the wall wart.

I just  made some DIY cables for these DVD Batts to run my UA-5 and H120(which takes the same 5v power.) they work great!
I would be happy to make some cables quickly for anyone who needs them, free of charge, you pay shipping both ways and provide me with the following supplies for the build.

1. DVD batt cables( the ones that go between the batt and device)
2. UA-5 power cable
3. Sima SUP 2 Universal power supply( for regulating the (9v to 5v for the H120)
Which can be purchased here: http://www.amazon.com/Sima-SUP-2-Universal-Power-Adapter/dp/B0001YFY1K

PM me if interested

Just noted that the OP didn't specify which iRiver he intends to use it with.
Beware that the H3xx series power jack is a different diameter than the H1xx, so you'd have to hack slightlys' if you happen to have a H3xx.

Last but not least, while the older Nokia phone chargers fit, they feed the wrong voltage. I can use my iriver charger on my phone (takes attrociously long, but it works), but not the other way arround.

Finniky little buggers.

i made a power cable for my 120 with an H plug (i think that was the size) from radio shack. there's a diagram on the bottom of the 120 showing the correct polarity for the plug. check it CAREFULLY!
