AKG SE5/CE2 mic. Any info?
« on: April 15, 2009, 02:42:35 PM »
Anyone know anything about this AKG SE5 mic or the CE2 capsule? I just bought one on ebay. Put in a bid for shits and giggles and ended up winning. Google wasn't helping.

My very limited experience was good with them.

Nice. The CE-2 is the omni capsule, and the SE5/CE_ series are electret condensor mics.  From what I recall when reading up, they are either powered by a battery you put in the mic body or by regular 48v phantom power.

Anyone know what these sell for these days, or new for that matter?

They seem to be going for < $100, on average, on ebay when they pop up.  They have been out of production since the early/mid 80s AFAIK.

Right on. I grabbed one for $35 shipped. The listing said he couldn't get it to work. I sort of assumed someone would snipe my bid but nobody did. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he didn't try phantom power. I have seen that before.

Let's us know how you make out and what you thoughts are on the performance.  I may need to add a pair to the museum  ;D
