Squeezebox Duet or V3?
« on: June 29, 2009, 05:49:07 PM »
Can someone tell me why one should pay the extra loot for the Duet?  Is it because of the remote controller?  Brand NIB V3 for 200 on my local Craigslist and not many Duets for sale under $350.

FYI you can also buy each component of the Duet separately - the remote is the more expensive portion

you can control the receiver with an iPhone and maybe iPod touch or you can control everything solely from your computer

i got my duet for just under $300 - i def wouldn't want to be without the remote the way my playback is set up in my living room but i'm sure it can be dealt with just fine

I think you're referring to the Grace Design V3, where rigpimp is referring to the Squeezebox 3.

I have a Squeezebox 3 and love it. I don't really see a need for the duet unless you want to have multiple base stations or like the cool remote.

wondering myself if the remote is worth the extra $ (it's a fare amount more).  for folks with the duet have you had any problems with the remote?  reading reviews online and seem to find many bad ones about the duet but not the classic.

I will not be adding more units etc.  this is for the living room only and will be connected to the router via ethernet.

thoughts are welcomed ;)

If you're up in the air about which one to get, why not get the SB3, that way you have the display, and can add the duet's remote later if you want/need it.

I have an SB2 that I bought years ago, and the thing is great.  It is really the most convenient thing I ever did for my music collection.  I coupled it with a Thecus N5200 that runs squeezeboxserver so I don't need my computer to listen to tunes, the box just sits in a closet with all my music files and hums away.

I've had a SQbox V2 for quite some time and recently got a Duet as well.  When you're working with a large music collection, I think the control interface of the Duet is much nicer and it is much easier to navigate through your collection.  I got my Duet (remote + receiver) NIB from ebay for $265 shipped.  I think with the ebay route, you can get a Duet system for $250-300.  I'm not sure how much the SB3/classic is these days, but the price difference wasn't enough to swing me in the favor of SB classic at the time I got my Duet.

Either way, get a squeezebox -- I love it for listening to music.  I haven't burned a disk for myself in years.  I was also happy to find out that the Duet remote works fine with my SB2, so I've kept that as well for hooking up to a different stereo.

I didn't realize the duet had a different interface... what's the difference between the two?

The remote allows for lots of info on the screen as opposed to only a few lines on the Classic.    Instead of looking at Squeezebox Receiver for info, you look at the Duet remote.   The remote can be in another room than the receiver that it controls.   No need to point a remote at anything, it's running of the wireless.
