did you catch this part in the description?

At an event, all of the band's hardware can be routed through the FA-101 to output to monitors and at the same time the show can be recorded and during the break, CD's burned to sell on the spot.

The front preamp section looks like the UA-5.

I'm noticing a lot more optical-only devices coming out - first the UA-5, then the new G5's, now this...pretty sweet for JB3 users!

The UA5 also receives and sends coax S/PDIF.

looks like edirol's answer to the m-audio firewire 410.  it should be interesting to see if this unit can be modded in the same way the ua-5 can.

Actually, with the routing, etc it looks like they might be trying to capture a bit of the market for the Metric Halo MIO.. although the MIO is a much more solid machine than can be offered at the pricepoint that Edirol will probably try to match.. but who knows, we may be surprised.

Looks like the Firewire410, but I don't like how the phantom power switch and the unit power switch is on the back...

The Firewire410 is better!  (gotta justify my purchase, you know) ;)

any clue if you would have enough power to run it from a jb3 with 2 batteries through firewire?

doubt that would work as it is likely gonna need to install console/driver software on the host pc...

And even if you could operate it standalone, would the jb3 even supply power over its firewire connection?  For some reason I highly doubt it...

saw one today at NAMM show. looked really nice and the Edirol tech gave me some really good techy info about the unit.

the MSRP was noted as $695.
