Need editing help!!
« on: November 02, 2009, 11:01:50 AM »
i know there is a place with all the software posted but i am still confused.  I need a program to place track marks and merge the seamless files together. i have a mac and have audacity.  what else do i need? and where do i get explicit instructions?  Met up with a guy at allmans/panic raleigh and he said he had idiot instructions with pics and would send them to me and i would send allmans set to him.  i have not heard back from him so here i am..  i need instructions like that.  will make it up to you for any help at a future show....
getting quite a bit of file built up..

thanks in advance
david

Audacity and Sound Studio will both do both functions. In Sound Studio, use cmd-M to drop markers and then Edit > Split by Markers to save the files individually. To place track markers in Audacity, use cmd-B, but make sure you place one at the very beginning of your file, or it'll only output everything AFTER your first marker. Then Export Multiple to save each track individually.

Should just be copy-paste, but I always open xACT, go to the shntool tab, and use the "join" function.

I haven't used Audacity in a long time...but I think you can simply load/import both WAVs back-to-back, making sure the start of the 2nd aligns with the end of the 1st.

You're close.  Make sure you read greenone's post about a marker at to signal your first track.  Also, everything after your final marker will cut as its own track, too - it's just the stuff before the first marker that doesn't get tracked.

So, once all your markers are set, do the following:
- File>Export Multiple

A dialogue box then pops up, do the following:
- Select Export Format as WAV
- Choose the location in which you need to save your tracks
- Split files based on:  Tracks (radio button)
- Name files: Numbering consecutively.  Here you can name your files as you wish.  It will auto number them for you at the end of the file name.

Select Export.

You're done.  Now, since you're using Mac you'll need to fix  sbe's (sector boundary errors) in each track (you can do them as a batch).  To do this you'll want to download xACT or a similar tool.  xACT rocks, though.  Contact ts.com member Scooter123 for the latest version of this exceptional program.  Once you get xACT you'll find it pretty self explanatory.

Cheers!

I think he used to go by skootb so I can see where you took the logical off-ramp. Damned if I know how you went that far though. ;)

just 2  more questions.  it would not let it switch to track marks in the exporting.  but that is how it split it so no big deal, but why does it do that?  and once i cut a file and add it to another,  it will not let me listen to it past the original file.  all joined files are silent.  and the original will still play, but stops once it hits a connecting file it stops giving a signal..

thanks again for all the help.

audacity will not switch to export by trackmarks, although that is how it exported it.  the other is once i combine 2 files together (2, 2 gig files)  only the first file will play for me.  when it gets to where the other file has been combined it stops giving me a signal, it just stops playing..  curser keeps moving volume goes out though....

hope i did a better job this time explaining it...
