with free shipping taboot

I guess Denon is clearing inventory for something. I don't follow much of the digital world closely but maybe there is a Blu-Ray capable player coming?

Didn't get the memo?
SACD is dead, dead, dead
DVD-A is limping

There is a great new Blu-Ray Audio standard which, of course, will make all else obsolete.     :P
(and has DRM)     ::)

SACD is far from dead, lots of great reissues coming out on SACD. It might be dead with the masses but it is thriving with audiophiles.

I know about the Oppo of course but the Denon, if anyone is shopping, is a very nice deck for redbook and sacd (and dvd-a if you're into that). It's of a much higher build quality than the Oppo.

Just posting good deals for folks who are looking at the Oppo universal decks (the non BluRay decks), this Denon is just a bit more expensive but is leaps and bounds better build quality.

^^he read my mind.

ive still got 100's of concert dvds too, i dont see blueray being used in that way for a long time.  blueray is still not practical for use to us tapers.

Does anyone know what D/A chip the Oppo units are using?  They don't seem to mention it on their site.

I'm admittedly not a movie or home theater guy at all either. Couldn't tell you the last movie I sat and watched at home. I still don't have an HD tv

Cool, thanks!  Any idea how this compares with the Burr Brown (PCM1791) in the Denon unit?

Sorry, I was wallowing in poor sarcasm and influenza    :P

My hope is really for HD-FLAC to become a standard.
Sort of cuts out the media providers, DRM, and inventory issues.
Lets the user choose a DAC that they like.

The storage issue is solved as soon as people see it and begin to use what's available to them.

I'm dying to hear the Sabre 32, but if I had a dollar for every new technology that was "revolutionary", I'd be rich beyond words

Came across this thread by chance and thought perfect, a nice universal player to replace an aged very basic Sony in a bedroom system.  Owning and generally being satisfied with 2 Oppo players, I figured the easy buy was another Oppo.  Sounded like this would be a step-up from my Oppo DV-970HD, so did a quick review check.  Seems that others who have purchased this Denon recently have experienced problems:

I decided to keep looking.....

I ordered one.  When it worked it sounded great.  Problem was it rarely worked.  I have now sent it back for another.  Since I am sending it back on their dime.  Why not try another.  Maybe I will get lucky and get one that works, eventuality.

It took my third one but, I think this one is going to work, knock on wood.  Two days of use and no problems.  I love the fact that when I  play a DVD that is a two channel recording the unit sends a signal to the sub woofer anyway.  With my old Sony the sub woofer wouldn't work.  Bass had to come from the left and right channel only.
