So I have just filmed a show in 1080p and when I tried to edit this in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 on my computer ... well, just lets say it will not work since my computer is to slow to handle the data I guess.

I have a Windows XP Home Edition
2,4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
2048 mb Ram

I could get 1024 mb more ram but would that be any big differences?

I talked to a friend yesterday that said that I could encode the 1080p material (.MTS) to a crapy format (MPEG2) and when all editing is done, I could easily by some clicking just replace the encoded files with the 1080p (MTS) original files again and then just render and save. Is this true?

Maybe Premiere Pro isn't good to work with?

5 audio / 2 video

a) you need more RAM at least
b) at least in final cut, you can work on lower-res files and reconnect to the hi-res just before export.  I don;t think that mpeg-2 would be the right choice for an intermediate though.

If you are running the regular 32 bit version of XP you can't put in much more than 1GB more of memory. The OS can only "see" about 3.4GB total.

Final Cut is Mac only.
