v2 & sbm1 powering in the field...
« on: January 30, 2004, 08:16:23 PM »
never used a sla before to power gear in the field.  i'd like to build my own battery & cables to use....but i am completely clueless on what i need to do this.  i read this:

http://www.marchingant.net/battpack.htm

it had a lot of good info, but not a lot of pics.  will any 6v sla work...like something from batteries plus or radio shack work?

also can i run both the v2 & sbm-1 off the same battery?

any additional info. would be great!

Thanks,
Justin

There's tons of info out there.

I made a page that may help:

www.scrupper.com/portable_power/

Basically an 6 volt  sla is a 6 volt sla.....kinda like all AA batteries are the same.

I'd imagine a 5ah 6 volt would easily get you through a show powering both.

I use a 6 volt, 7ah to power both my D100 and Mod SBM1 off of the the same SLA....I have never run out of power at a show...and I have run it probably 6 hours for two consecutive shows without charging it.  That being said, I am tired of lugging around 2 6volts to power my portable rig...so I bought some rechargeables for all the gear....going to run some tests at home once I get the MP-2 back from being modded for rechargeables to get real time estimates.  Hopefully I can safely count on rechargeables running my rig for 3.5 hours....we shall see

im about to test out a bp-50 6volt tomorrow night for moe, running both my v2 and mod sbm1, ill let you know how it turns out, phill told me when i bought the sbm1 power cable, that it should run both w/phantom for around 4 hrs., we'll put it to the test

for real?  I gues I went way overboard for my SLA batteries...
I power my D8 from a 7.2ah 6v, and I power my v3 from a seperate 12ah 6v.  I guess it's time to wire up a power cable for both of them to run off the 12ah.  then I won't have to carry around so much lead...

did this both nights, ran fine with no low battery indicator on the v2 and the sbm1 had all four lights at 3.5 hrs, tonight, it went for about the same with the same results, so i would say phill was right, 4 hrs with phantom on

when theyre not together, the v3 will go a steady 9 hrs,(i believe at 10hr mark, it shuts down)and thats w/ a v3 on a 7,2a 6v(bp-50)

would someone test a d-8 alone in a bp-50 and see how long the sucker records, im QUITE anxious!!!!i might do it to my dead d-8 and set up the mics>v3(one one bp-50) and then flip on both of em 8)we'll see
