Mobile FLAC playback
« on: May 17, 2010, 05:03:17 PM »
While I do appreciate the excellent VBR mp3 formats (V0 is really good), I'd really like to be able to skip that conversion step for mobile solid state playback. My previous phone was a MotoQ with Windows Mobile OS and I had a media player that could play FLACs, complete with tag display. The phone had a 2GB memory card limit. FLAC playback was possible, just not practical. Now with my BlackBerry I can use 16GB (maybe even 32GB) cards, but I have no FLAC option as far as I can find.

I've heard of a few mobile devices that can play FLACs, not necessarily phones. In my search for BlackBerry apps that play FLACs I have come up with nothing.

What are you all using for mobile FLAC playback? Any BlackBerry apps that can do it? Is mobile FLAC24 playback possible? I see an Android OS phone in my distant future (12 months). Anything decent for Android?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Same WinMo situation here, but my handset will recognize 16GB so it has been fine for me. However, I need a new phone & the research I have done turned up nothing in the Blackberry realm. As for Android, 'andLess' seems to be the app of choice for most. If you google 'flac on android', it will turn up posts on a google forum with requests to the developers for support & rumor has it that support is coming. Who knows.

If you are looking for something ultra cheap and just for audio, i recommend the Teclast TL-X19+. I picked up a 4GB player on ebay for about 25 bucks 6 months ago. 70+ hour battery life, Sigmatel STMP3770 chipset, 5 minute charge yields 3 hours of play time and it plays every file imaginable without conversion.
