Hydrogen Fuel Cell $99

Looks very promising for some of our purposes.  Only real drawback is the relatively small current output of 2.5W (5V, 400mA)

MicroUSB out

Jake: What's this?
Elwood: What?
Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy?
Elwood: The what?
Jake: The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile!
Elwood: I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this?
Elwood: No. For a microphone.
Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that.

Interesting, thanks for passing that along!

I work on hydrogen and fuel cell research.  I'm not involved in the micro-power world of fuel cells, but I think the more typical direction is for micro-power from direct methanol fuel cells, not hydrogen, which use small methanol cartridges as the fuel source.  Interesting though to see there are hydrogen fuel cell micro power products, I didn't realize that.

I think in general these technologies are not yet ready for prime time, but they are getting close.  For direct methanol fuel cells, take a look at mti micro:

The 'use it like a recharable battery' aspect of providing a way of recharging the hydrogen cylinders via water electolysis is a great angle which differentiates it from other early products I've seen that require buying menthanol canisters.
