nimh charging question
« on: February 09, 2004, 06:54:51 PM »
k so i got my 9.6 v 3000 mah batts the other day, and they came with a charger that has an output of 12 v @ 200mah.  would there be any danger using a 12v @700 mah charger?  cause its the same voltage, but would it fry the cells cause its pushing too hard?  any advice would be great, thanks.

Pushing too too much cuurebt into a battery can cause "boil off"  especially when they reach their peak volatge.  Rapidly charging the batteries isn't the best idea to do repeatedly.  I'd stick with the 200mAh charger if you're not in a rush.

It's no problem to charge at 700mA - you just don't want to leave it on after they're charged, whereas the 200mA can't really do any damage.

Pull the 700 when the batteries start to warm up.

you should definantly look into thier smart charger for these batterys and anything 6-24v.

it has 2000mah charge rate, auto 50mah top off,a nd auto shutoff! also has automatic voltage detecion of the battery

in used to use the regular batteryspace charger with my 1600mah 9.6v packs, but with the 3000mah you can be charged and ready to go from fully drained in ~1.5hrs per pack!

thats what i did. i run the mme on the 9.6v 3000mah packs and get almost the same exact runtime as i did with the ua5. i picked up one, then bought the 2 pack with the smart charger, best investment ever!
