Quatafire 610 released...
« on: February 11, 2004, 09:30:16 PM »
Apparently it's shipping now, though I'm not sure what vendors have it yet. Some downers from looking at it and leafing through the manual:

- External power is DC...but 24V suggested! And that's only if you use it with a 4-pin FireWire cable. Specs later on say 8V-30V, but recommends 24V 500mA.
- No level meters - there's one LED that covers the four analog inputs (two XLR's, two RCA's) that lights if an input is clipping. Might be a good use for one of Nick's homemade VU meter thingies.
- No Mac compatibility - WinXP only!
- Like Scott noted elsewhere, no more 24/192 I/O, just 24/96 in, 24/192 out.
- No indication that it can be run standalone without a mod.

So much promise to start with...kinda disappointing now. :(

Actually, according to a MacSlash article (link), OS X drivers are due in late March/early April.  Doesn't fix the rest of those, though. ;)
