Helping some friends out with a gig tonight and they are short two mics (one for guitar amp and one for bass cab). I have a pair of AKG 480 w/ 61 cardiod caps.

Just curious if anyone has ever heard of using these in this manner.
AKG C 480 B (CK61 and CK63) > Oade m248 > GAK cable > Sony M-10

There is no reason it shouldn't work. My 480s sound great on everything I've tried them on though admittedly never on a guitar cabinet.
Use the 10 db pad and a windscreen. If the amps are really loud set the mics back a foot or more. You can adjust the angle of the mic to control the tone.

It might work for recording purposes, when you can record the amp from a slight distance.
However, in a live setting (where close miking is mandatory to avoid bleed and feedback) it will probably sound very bright, but who knows...

I forget who it is but there is a fella here who does it. He puts them up against his 4011's.

Update - ended up not needing to mic the amps, but thanks for the advice.

Nice. It was jnorman34 who I was referring to. He does studio work, I gather from a few of his posts.
