I am pretty new to runing a rig.  I was just wondering, where could I buy an Umbrella for the top of my mic stand

i use a walmart special.  Smallest umbrella they sold (maybe $3 or so) and I use gaff tape to attach it to the stand.  WOrks like a charm and isn't too obtrusive.  

Is this John? merin?  Did I meet you at Biscuits in Central Park a couple years ago?  I worked at American-Digital at the time...

as for rain gear, either hefty bags for the gear on the ground or a dry bag used for kayaking work great for shit scattered on the ground.  I also like to use ceran wrap around the connection between mic and cable if it's really coming down.  Might be overkill, but I'd rather be safe than out a pair of mics.

If you are planning for rain, get get a couple rolls of thick plastic drop cloth from home depot.  It costs about 1.50 for a 9'x12' and packs very small.  You can use it to cover your entire rig and still see the meters and work the buttons through the plastic.  Saved my ass a couple of times.

mine's actually a pretty bitchin batman one.  of course, i always have 3-4 60 gal can liners stuffed in my bag.

Ya, I got the Radio Flyer umbrella Toys R Us! Its pretty cool

stroller umbrellas are the way to go- they have a clamp on them which is really nice.  also dont forget to make sure to have windscreens on- wind will most likely kick up in a rain situation and any protection for your mics is better than none.  Also, don't forget a poncho for yourself!
