intermediary software for external HD transfer
« on: November 03, 2011, 07:08:10 PM »
Hi Team!

I've recently scored a 320GB drive (for £40!!) to start to back up and look after some of the material which has started going round with me all the time in my laptop.

However, I've also got a collection of analogue and DAT material which I intend to transfer. I have a Mac and currently run ProTools 8. I do not envisage any processing at the initial transfer stage in terms of dynamics or noise reduction. At this point, the only way I can see to do it is to import everything into 'Tools and then bounce it to the external drive.

Is this the best use of resources/way to handle it?

Apologies as I know variations on this question are asked again and again!

Thanks

JimP

wow- I hadn't expected this!

does this mean I'm on the right lines already and there's no real way to avoid Pro Tools??!

So you have some files on your laptop that you want on the external HD? I tried a bunch of different programs and Carbon Copy Cloner is the only one I liked for this application. You don't have to pay for it but there are ads if you don't (they're not too bad actually).

As for the material still on tape....you don't HAVE to use Pro Tools but if that's what you've got, might as well use it instead of buying a different program.
