No idea, but marking the thread as I've been wondering about that a lot lately.

I swear line arrays are bad for that, or something is going on with how live music is mixed and amplified in recent years.  I feel like pretty much everything I record now needs de-essing to my ears, yet I go back to my old DAT tapes from 10 years ago and I don't notice it being nearly as prevalent.
Mics: Microtech Gefell m20/m21 (nbob/pfa actives), Line Audio CM3, Church CA-11 cards
Preamp:  none <sniff>

We use the WAVES DeEsser at work. It comes in handy for individual live speakers. I've never used it on a whole music mix though.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

I use the one in Samplitude Pro X, but Sonnox Supressor is supposed to be very good.

I haven't used the Renaissance version.
I've only used the standard De-esser and only on spoken word recordings.
