who can make me an adapter quick?
« on: February 12, 2013, 08:38:23 PM »
looks like I may need an adapter to go from a KCY style active cable with binder plug to a KCY tinybox with mini xlr in
super short would be fine, even barrel connector would be fine with me
price not a huge factor, but speed would be as I need it in my grubby little paws in Columbus Ohio by the 20th?
any taker just shoot me a PM, I'll get cback to you asap and pay immediately via paypal if that works for you
thanks
Dave

If it helps, I believe this is what you need:

TA6F (6-pin Mini-XLR Female) to 5-pin Binder 711 series Female

TA6F Pin 1: (+6V -- power to FET) <> Binder 711 Pin 4
TA6F Pin 2: (Right + non-inverting signal) <> Binder 711 Pin 3
TA6F Pin 3: (Left + non-inverting signal) <> Binder 711 Pin 2
TA6F Pin 4: (+48V -- polarization) <> Binder 711 Pin 5
TA6F shell/chassis (common ground) <> Binder 711 Pin 1
TA6F Pins 5 & 6: n/c

Maybe Jon O'Neil can confirm, or any of the various talented cable makers here who are familiar with the Schoeps actives.

Thanks, Jon.  Dave is looking to borrow a Tinybox to use his KCY cables for a show, and I offered mine.  It does have +8v on pin 1 since it's configured to run hacked KC5 cables.

Pinout is correct, but you need a tinybox with +8V on pin 1--most of the P48 boxes have +16V on pin 1.  I have no idea what the max rating on the KCY capsule FET is; it can probably take +16V but given the expense I would not encourage experimentation.

Vmax Drain-Gate voltage is 25v. I have no idea what will actually happen in terms of performance when you apply more than 6-8v, though.

thanks to all, I think I have a TB nailed down as a loaner designed for the binder so no adapter needed :)

Couldn't he just use a KCY TB?
Schoeps MK 4V & MK 41V ->
Schoeps 250|0 KCY's (x2) ->
Naiant +60v|Low Noise PFA's (x2) ->
DarkTrain Right Angle Stubby XLR's (x3) ->
Sound Devices MixPre-6 & MixPre-3

Are pins set up the same for all tb or do they very?
Prob be a good idea to know my pins in case I ever needed work and Jon wasn't available

They vary, although the most common configuration for v2 is P48, which has 48V on pin 4 and 16V on pin 1.  The are too many possible variations to list, but the available functions for each pin are listed on the site:

http://www.naiant.com/tinyboxspecification.html

The mini-XLR input/output pin configuration is as follows:

6-pin:

pin 1: low-voltage mic power supply, right submix input, right line output, or ground
pin 2: right noninverting input
pin 3: left noninverting input
pin 4: high-voltage capsule polarization/phantom voltage, left submix input, left line output, or ground
pin 5: right inverting input
pin 6: left inverting input

chassis: ground

I haven't built any submix input boxes, and I don't think any v2 boxes have an output on the 6-pin.  Probably 90% of them have a high-volt rail, either for phantom, actives, or both.

Your P48/AKG/PIP box works like this:

1 +16V
2 R+ (7k5 termination to ground)
3 L+ (7k5 termination to ground)
4 +48V
5 R- & +8V across 7k5
6 L- & +8V across 7k5
thanks
