Senn HD580 and HD600
« on: February 15, 2014, 10:14:14 AM »
Is there much of a difference between these? I have the 580's and was looking to upgrade? Any upgrades for the 580's? Thanks!

There seem to be two camps:  no difference and save your money, and yes, a noticeable difference and worth the extra $$. ::)  Perhaps you could audition a pair locally?

FWIW, I think I saw a driver upgrade on Head-fi that would let you convert your 580's to 600's.  I also think I saw that there's a link somewhere there on Head-fit that gives instructions how to do it.  Seems like the upgrade was in the $90 range.  Sorry, I'm going from memory here so I can't give you links.  If I run across them I'll come back and update this listing.

If you were local, I'd let you use my HD600s for awhile or if you want, I can send them to you if you wanna pay for the shipping back and forth.

Thanks Steve! Other side of the state. I did see some upgrades for the 580's, but don't have the balls to try them some of them. One was obviously a cable upgrade.

Here's the listing I saw, but it's sold.  Perhaps you could contact him and get details.  Offer stands to mail them over to you if you want to try mine out.

I just searched head-fi on the term '580 vs 600' and got several thread hits discussing the differences.  FWIW, from reading those, I don't think I'd be very compelled to consider moving from the 580 to 600.

I had the 580's and loved them. After they wore out I replaced them with the 600's and later added a pair of 650's. The 600's came with the acclaimed Cardas cable which I later moved to the 650's. (I only got the Cardas because the 600's + Cardas was priced low on E-Bay).

I love all these headphones and to my aged ears I don't even think the 650's with the Cardas cable sound noticeably better than the 580's (though I don't have 580's anymore to compare directly).
AT853's (all caps)/CM-300 Franken Naks (CP-1,2,3)/JBMod Nak 700's (CP-701,702) > Tascam DR-680
Or Sonic Studios DSM-6 > M10

FWIW, I started with HD600s...then heard the 580, liked them more, and sold the 600s. Never regretted that decision. Do NOT make a move assuming newer (or more expensive) is better. Listen first!
There's numerous discussions about this on head-fi.org, btw.
