Oppo BDP-105D Darbee Edition
« on: April 20, 2014, 10:12:46 AM »
i have only read a couple of brief comments on this Blue-ray, DVDA player on this site. The reviews online seem good. I need a new dvda player, more then blue-ray player, this one seems to be a good option. Any feed back on other options for me? The d/a seems good on reviews I read.

I'll second your choice for Oppo Darbee.

We've got an Oppo BDP-93 and it's great but would upgrade to the BDP-103D if we could find a buyer for the 93 otherwise we'll wait until their next generation.  The 105D is certainly a great choice though it's overkill for us.

i have this unit and REALLY like it for its INSANE versatility -- are you planning to use it to play home-brewed dvd-a disks?  If so, you may find its network playback functionality to eliminate the need to burn disks, as you can send high res flacs to it via wired (or wireless, it even includes an adaptor) connectivity.  Its d>a converters (it has two) sound quite nice to me too.

One thing -- Darbee is video image enhancement technology, that works best on 1080p high resolution video (i.e. it's worst on 480p dvd video) and does nothing to audio.  Depending on your intended uses, you might consider saving $100 and skipping darbee.

pulled the trigger on Oppo 105D a week or so ago. Also added a Drobo 5N
WOW....love the Oppo!! I am slowly adding 24flacs to the Drobo, and playing via Oppo, great to have all these recordings at an easy play via Oppo
Not to mention the streaming of movies is insane, much better then my old way of hooking up laptop to tv to stream. Now it plays via Oppo > pre> amp, I just run two channels, but vast improvement. Reads the dvda's wonderfully.
