Topic: Upgrading The JB3 Harddrive..??

hey now,  i saw an earlier post about this and was curious where people have taken it.. i was interested but not familiar with the software end of it.. ie how to transfer all the existing info over.. ive come across a few toshiba internal 4200 rpm 60gig for 125.00 ..seems like  great increase .. any input is much appreciated..

I just opened mine for the first time to have a look [I'm thinking about the upgrade myself]
my suggestion is to use either masking tape or perhaps super glue to hold the spacers in place when trying to get it back together.  Saves you a little headache.. I would use a small piece of tape for each spacer and just poke through with the screw when it's time to get it all back together...
 

BTW-  do you think steppin up to a higher rpm and buffer would be worth the extra dough. I figure a faster drive and larger buffer would reduce chance for recording errors??? but, i dunno...

Also checked on the JB3 drive, it is a Fujitsu model MHR2020AT

Glad you pointed that out.. stick with the 4200 rpm drives then?

Curious about the buffer too....do you think it would be worth while to get one with maybe 8mb?

dont think the buffer is going to make that much of a difference.
as an example, last weekend I ran 8 channel multitrack to a standard 2MB buffer 7,200 RPM IDE drive over firewire(which is slower than if the drive was locally enclosed on the IDE channel).
no flaws whatsoever with the disk writes.

the disk buffer is somewhat more of a marketing ploy. . .

Getting ready to purchase a CJB3.  Is the 20 gig verison upgradeable like the 40 gig version; are there any differences in the models that I should be aware of?

Though I don't have first-hand experience, I believe both can be upgraded and the only difference between the 40GB and 20GB is a larger HD.
