Festie power: Inverter?
« on: July 12, 2004, 02:14:48 PM »
Kids!!!

I need some advice. I have a three day festie that i will be camping out at. I will have a vehicle for some DC power availability. Can i use an inverter to change into AC to plug my stuff into to charge it? Should i run my truck while i do that? Is there any other option? I want to do anywhere from2 to 6 hours a day, so just being conservative won't cut it.

1 JB3
1 HOSA signal converter box
1 eco=charge battery charger

all need to be plugged in each night immediately after the show so that they will be ready first thing the next AM.

Any ides will be apreciated. This is my "prom night" of taping for the summer, so i want to do it right!

i did the inverter thing for HSMF and it did the job but it's slow and i would suggest starting your car every once in awhile so you don't go to leave and have a dead battery.  I would also look for someone with an RV and see if you can get some power from them.

the hosa should last no problem if you have something like a 1600mah battery :)

the jb3 should recharge in the car, go to walmart, get the powerline series 4.5 volt adapter we all love and use and that will charge your jb3 QUICK in the car, the thing pumps out 2000mah, i recharged my jb3 after every nite phish from the 23rd to the 26th and the car adapter did REALLY well, charging my jb3 after a nite of recording phish and listening to t00nes all nite, it took about an hour, maybe an hr and a half to fully charge :)

as for the eco charge, what are you powering it with ???

also, what kind of eco are you using???

that thing should get ya about many hrs depending on what youre running :)

Thanks, guys. I am powering a V2 and an ADC-20 with the 6V eco-charge. I am really paranoid since i have flailed on this before. I think each eco-charge batt is good for maybe 4 hours of taping with the two components hooked into it.

dunno which charger i have (got the rig from my friend...) but it usually takes a pretty long time to charge up, which implies to me that it is slow. Can i get a faster charger? Never thought of that.

Thanks!! +t for you two!

I have two 6V batts. If you can send me an equiptment list, i'd just built it myself and buy you a beer (or whatever) with the postage.

I'm pretty proficient with the soldering iron, but i would be starting from scratch if i just tried to build a charger.

Thanks again...

... which brings me back to the question of the best charger and if i should plug it into an inverter, or can i do a DC-DC transformer from the DC power on my truck. Any opinion on that?

Thanks again,
UJ

you know what, a lot of ppl oversee this :)

get in good w/ a vendor, puff em down or something, kick em a few bucks, whatever, they will let ya charge sometimes and are usually close to the music :)

i have an ecocharge charger, and  its basically a rebranded xenotronix charger, these come highly recomended :)

Re: Festie power: Inverter from car? Anyone?
« Reply #11 on: July 19, 2004, 10:22:56 AM »
OK guys,

I was going to use an inverter from my car battery for backup, just in case i don't have quite enough juice. Any suggestions on Wattage? Looks like 400W will run me $60 or so.

Any other tips on using this?

  Thanks,
Jim
