found it odd that they tested the lower end of the denon dvd models but not the higher end.

Me too!  Seeing the Cary and Arcam there I thought it would have covered the 3910 as well as the Onkyo SP1000/Integra 10.5.   I'll check the site to see if they had done a review of the 3910 in which case they put it through the same tests.  I don't think Kris has gotten this done yet.

arcam took a step back with the dv29.  the dv27a is still ridiculous.  they're also going for great prices on audiogon
