AD-20 & PS-2 Question
« on: February 05, 2005, 08:40:14 PM »
Hi ~

Can somebody take a look at this thread http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=35330.0 in the "Yard Sale" section and tell me if this is the stuff I'd need to run my mics if I modified them to phantom power?  And whether the "mini out" would be something I'd need?

The seller isn't sure and I don't know.  Can someone advise??
THANKS !!
:)

If your mics can be modified to accept phantom power, then yes, you could run :
your mics > ps2 > ad20 > d100.

To connect the ad20 and the d100, you will have to use an optical to 7 pin cable since the coax out of this ad20 doesn't work. "POC-DA12P" is the cable made by Sony for their portable dats... it has both in/out rectangular optical connector and a 7 pin cable.
Unfortunately, this cable seems very fragile...
So, for open taping, you can use this cable.
For stealth taping, you will have to take good care of it if you do not want to break the optical connector.
But, I'm sure it can be done.

Another option would be a to a diy optical to 7 pin cable based on a stronger cable. There is a thread to make a "DIY 7 pin optical output cable"
This one won't help you since it is an output optical cable but maybe, based on that thread, you could make it to work as an input optical cable (?)
Hope this helps !
