seperate P/A and A/D or all-in-one?

been debating recently as to the upgrade path I want to take for my rig.
contemplating the all-in-one approach of a MiniMe or V3 versus something like a MixPre> ADC-20 or similar boxes.
what are some pro/cons I should be aware of?

fwiw, I currently run AKG 391 but am thinking of picking up a pair of MBHO 440 or ADK large diaphragms

I have a M1 DAT.
I'm not concerned with the A/D having a USB or other computer interface (I dont trust USB for anything other than keyboard/mice); besides, I have a MOTU828 to power my PowerBook. just looking for something more portable to run my DAT.

why not just come out of the RCA S/PDIF? the mic cables connectors going into the V3 should be long enough to take any pressure off the S/PDIF cable

I'd go with whatever combo of/single box pre/ADC

[a] fits your budget
your ears like best with the mics you run
[c] most closely matches your desired feature set
[d] matches your tolerance for schlepping around more/less gear/batteries.

For me, the answer to the above criteria:  V3.  I think the only real pro/con discussion around single v. multiple boxes is [d].

I say the V3 also, but I guess it depends on what kind of sound you want, clear and transparent, or warm and phat.

if you've got the budget, go for a pre/ad in one box, as mentioned by our esteemed collegues.  and, definitely go v3.  if there is a budget issue, go v2>adc-20, which could be had for less than half the price, and still be a really sweet rig.  i ran it for a couple years.  and btw, have an adc-20 for sale.

ONe quick question...I have aes out on my mini-me but have never ever used it.  Will a sony 7-pin take an aes signal?  If so, what are the best ways for making such a cabvle?

addon:  If you go with the mbho's, the mme would be a better fit.  ADK's I don't really have enough experience with, but if you are going mbho, why not buy kris's mbho's?  They would only run about 200 moire than a new set of 440's.  I loved the 440's FWIW.
