Splitting Walmart battery to power 2 devices?
« on: August 08, 2005, 05:50:18 PM »
It's been 10 years since I've had physics, so I could use a little help here. If I split the output to power both my MiniMe and 312 off one battery, does this change the Voltage? I'm using a Walmart battery for each and would love to run the MME and 312 off one and the JB3 off the other via one of those SIMA units.

john, if you connected 2 wires to the battery's positive output and ran one to mme and the other to the 312, and then connected 2 wires to the battery's negative output and ran one to the mme and the other to the 312, you'd be creating a "parallel" circuit in which each device would receive 9.6 volts from the battery.

Thanks! +T
I currently have an adaptaplug coming out of the battery and going into the 312 and was thinking about adding this Y splitter

to split the cable to the MiniMe and the 312.

should work fine, just be extra-careful with polarity (of course)

Only remaining question is how much current these 2 draw together -- how long would the walmart batter run either of these alone?  If, say, 3 hours for the mm3 and 4 hours for the 312, I'd not expect to get much more than 1.5 hours out of the battery when running both at the same time.

I'd say six easy on the MME and several days on the 312. Shouldn't be a problem

Why not run all 3 off both batteries
