FLACfrontend compression
« on: August 23, 2005, 03:58:26 PM »
Trying to compress a full concert (about 166 mins) and I am having a "problem". The encoded flac file says it is six minutes long, but it is longer than that. I can go past that 6 min mark, but it that is says that the bugs me. Is this an actual problem? Anyone else had this? I can want to make sure my backup concerts are right. Let me know.

where exactly do you see it saying 6 min? How long is it in winamp?

In the playlist editor screen it says 6:00. I can go past that. I have tried three different compression numbers for it (6, 7 & 8) and they all have that problem.

so i guess winamp is telling you that it's 6 min?  You can decompress the flac and either compair it to the original using wavelab or something or make an md5 of the original and see if the decompressed passes it.

It just seems to be the playlist editor part of winamp. I clicked on the properties of the flac file in winamp and it said the correct time amount. Doesn't seem to be an issue, I just don't want to open up the flac file some where down the road and it is 6 mins. Maybe I will try converting it to ape.

It's probably just a quirk of winamp, not displaying the proper time (perhaps because it is so long).  I doubt it's anything to worry about.

You said you want to be able to use this data later, right?

Yeah. Should I just stick with FLAC then?

I wouldn't suggest using anything but FLAC, but SHN is still quite acceptable.

Ok I went back to FLAC. Doesn't seem like it will be a problem later on. I can't do SHN because my version of MKWact doesn't convert anymore :P. Thanks for the help everyone.
