can not reset router
« on: September 27, 2005, 12:26:27 PM »
so I have a linksys wireless router (wrt54g). anyway my internet has been acting up lately so I discontected the router. when I reconect it I have to set it up all over again. this has happend a few times and is never a big deal. I have to reset the router to default settings and set it up again. this is where my problem is. this time I can not reset the router. pushing the reset thing in the back does nothing. tried it many many times and it will not reset and there for I can't finish the set up. doesn't matter how long I hold the reset button. during set up I keep getting the

unable to connect to router
check that the router has been connected or reset the router to default settings by pressing the reset button.

again it will not reset! tried unplugging it for hours, tried holding the button for a long, long time, etc. nothing works so I can't finish the set up process. anyone have any clue how to fix this?? I have a feeling it may be done for.

this more or less happened to me once too
i came to the conclussion that a new one was the best bet
if you do DLing of stuff even more reason to just get a new one because you don't want it to cut out on you time after time during DLs

when u were trying to configure it were you wireless or wired ?

If you were trying to configure over wifi that might have been the issue when trying to finish the setup.

Also were you running the software they give you ? If so I wouldnt bother just simply open a web browser and configure it using the menus instead. Also make sure you set up the wifi security to at least WPA using AES. Dont leave the routers passwd to admin admin anyone with half a brain can get in and mess with your shyte

For the record, I've called Linksys tech support a few times and they were very good. I couldn't understand what they were saying most of the time (India) but they knew how to fix my problems.

did you reset your modem, too?  FWIW I've always been able to reset with pencil/pen in the back of my router (same one!), and it brings me back to admin.admin

Seems odd but just 30" seemed to clear up our issues.  Weird. ???

Is it near a cordless phone? microwave? Most likely interference. I had this same problem due to both of these devices. The only way "around" it is to go 802.11A at 5Ghz. Even then you prolly still aren't safe.
I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
