What is the best way to power a mini-me in the field?
« on: November 20, 2005, 05:03:39 PM »
I'm looking for the longest lasting, and lightest battery to power up the Apogee Mini-me in the field.

Can some mini-me users tell me the best power supply to use?

Thanks!
Mics: Schoeps MK4 & MK41, AKG CK63 (Naiant Actives)

Preamps: Naiant KCY Littlebox

Recorders: Sound Devices 664, Sony PCM-M10

That's where I got the one I had, Walmart. They are also on eBay. One brand name is Initial.
I've heard Radio Shack had some too. There are tons of threads here on these rechargable batteries.

I use two 3000mah, 7.2 volt, Ni-MH RC batterys.
Runs for approx. 9 hours powering just the Mme.

Takes only 1 hour to charge.
Also, theyre pretty damn light, but Ive never used the Wal Marts,
so I dont know how they compare. Whatever the case Im happy with this setup.

It is way better than the AD1000 in terms of power consumption.  So you are not wasting energy that would otherewise be needed on a AD1000 to let's say, fry and egg for dinner.

wired in parallel or run seperately ???

thanks

Bean

p.s.-i have 12 x 3000mah packs and 3 batts are wired in parallel thanks to leegeddy, so i have 3 7.2v NIMH 3000mah packs wired in parallel to juice up my amps, and this way the setup is also hot-swappable

Theyre ran in parallel.
I also would imagine that they would be hot swappable, but Ive never
tried cause I only got the 2.

WOW :o 12 x 3000mah, How long can you run off that fleet?

well, really there are only 4 packs, since i taped 3 x 3000mah batts together to make one 'pack' essentially

I can run the v3+jb3 out of the VRBox for about 6 hrs per 'pack', so about 24 hrs, perfect for festies 8) plus the 2 internal jb3 batts and an eco 6v 7.2amp that powers the v3 alone for 10 hrs or so 8)

i havent had many problems w/ power in almost 8 years of taping tho ;D
