Someone's speakin' the truth on Pre/Ad's!
« on: August 12, 2003, 11:17:25 PM »
I just stumbled onto someone who actually gives a meaningful answer to a question regarding the MMe and the V3.  You hear so many opinions, mostly the same ones over and over, blah, blah, blah.  If you skip past the other dribble, this guy Ray pretty much sums it up.

I read that yesterday.  IMHO, both units shine in differnt places with different mics...nuff said.  And yes, I have used both extensively now.  Now if I could just find that v2 on a payment plan...

so do you still have do do the calpot crap on the minime with the v2?  Or do the trim knobs mitigate that somewhat?

If someone would hack the mme for standalone AD operation without the calpots I'd pick one up after I get my new recorder... txformer pre>apogee 24/96!!!  Oh well, one can only hope...

From what i've read it's fairly easy to calibrate the MME to the V2.  So you would still go Line in on the MME, but the V2 would be the only point of gain adjustment.

variable gain pre=no messing with calpots

get an mp-2 ;), or deal with it like everybody else does.  With the exception of Marc, everyone I have spoken with says that they are fine with the minicrewdriver.  The quote is "you get used to it.."

To me, the standalone MMe has a transformer warm sound as an all in one box.  I don't think that an mp-2 is going to add anything beneficial to the sound.

I really like the way the PSP-2 sounds with my current setup; I don't see getting rid of it any time in the near future.  The 500e may be a casualty if the a/d in the 722 is worth a damn
