How much do you want to spend and how detailed are the solder jobs your looking at?

I purchased the Cold heat Soldering Iron As seen on TV a few weeks ago.... Never had time to play around with it. Might make some cables using it sometime in the future. Its really cheap about $20...don't know if it is good though will know in a few months..

Is that a good price? What do they usually run new?

I got it from this kind of hole in the wall electronics/hobby shop here in Salt Lake City called Raelco, I doubt they have a web store. I also got some silver solder, now I just need some cobles and connectors.  8)

Yeah, it's cheaper than I have been able to find elsewhere.

It's sold for 39$ at HMC Electronics.

That's actually the same eBay seller. It's ~$50 with shipping.

Got the Weller WCL100 at fry's electronics about two weeks ago for $39.  Picked up some lead free solder and a different size tip and was out the door for less than $50. (Well was actually out the door for less then $85 cause they had a real good sale on a Dremel at the same time.) :-}

Fry's had another brand that looked about the same as the Welller setup for $30 but a customer there told me that the Weller was better quality.

Stay Kind,
Dana

EDIT: They also had one of those cold solder guns made by Coleman for $19.99.

Weller makes the very best soldering irons I use a number of them make sure if your going to get one and you plan on doing alot of soldering work for lead free soldering.
the rule of thumb is. Irons for cable soldering irons can be 15 watt to 25, basic electronics 15 watt to 45 watt. adavanced and lead free 65 to 100 watt. Buy good solder never buy the cheap shit that is out there I use Kester brand .30 rosin core. There are people that claim silver solder is better maybe they are correct but to my mind if the connector is not silver and the wire is not silver what difference does it make?  Good luck and don't burn your self.
