Need help on my first upload to Dime
« on: November 18, 2006, 02:28:30 AM »
Last week I uploaded to the LMA for the first time, and that was a breeze, since it's just sending files to another place.

Tonight, I'm trying to torrent a REALLY tasty gem from my masters collections (Red Hot Chili Peppers soundboard from '86) and I can't get it to work.  I am using uTorrent.
I did all the normal conversions:

- Waves converted to FLACS
- Info and text files created.

I then opened the "Create new torrent" link in utorrent.  I followed the steps it dictated, and then went to the DAD site and filled in all the info to upload a torrent.  When I completed that, I hit the upload button and I got the message saying that the upload was successful, but that because I was in "member mode" I had to download my own torrent in order to seed it.  O.K....no biggy.  I opened the utorrent client, and tried to download.  The files load in to the client, and the torrent even comes up with the blue download arrow, but nothing is happening.  The little infinity sign is present, and there is no movement in the download portion.  I even turned the firewall off.

Can anyone offer thoughts as to what may be going wrong?  I'm sure it's user error, but I need to determine said error.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

I see you on there as a leecher with 0%

You sure you pointed the torrent to the correct folder with the FLACs?

Only a minor point, but you might be firewalled as well, but this won't be aproblem seeding a show of this popularity.

I guess I'm having issues with the firewall thing.  I tried doing the port opening, but nothing seems to work.

Frustrated.

Working now (or would be if everyone so far wasn't firewalled), what did you do?

I don't know.  On my tracker, it doesn't say that anyone is downloading, or that I am uploading.  Is it really working?

As soon as you get someone that isn't firewalled leeching off you, it should be!

By the way, stop seeding all those other shows!!

Yes.  When you seed a new recording of your own, stop seeding any other torrents.  The progress of the fastest downloaders in the swarm will be entirely determined by how fast you can upload new material to them.  The more of your bandwidth that's being used up by seeding other shows, the slower "your" torrent will move.  Especially if the other shows have multiple seeders, it's much better for the community if all of your uploading resources go into your new torrent until there are multiple seeders with the full show.

Glad its going well for you!

I'm stuck at 30kB/s up (55kB/s down)..but that's the UK for ya..if you've ever wondered why it takes ages to get a show from a UK uploader, that's why..
