Compact Flash card as portable Audio Player?
« on: December 16, 2006, 03:01:50 PM »
Any programs out there to convert a Flash Memory card into a portable Audio Player of sorts?

I would love to have program one could install on a flash card and use that program to read mp3, .wav, flac, etc. as a portable player...shuffle, playlists, tags, etc.

you could use a palm pilot...
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

The extra stuff needed is way too complex to stick on yourself.  For example this is a chip by SigmaTel which provides most of those functions in one go: http://www.sigmatel.com/products/portable/audio/stmp3500.aspx

Doesn't look so simple really.

Why aren't they making players with CF or SD card slots?  Seems like a CD or DVD player with a CF slot would be perfect, almost like having a cassette again.
Occasionally....music mics record

My Archos Gmini400 has a CF card slot built into the side of it.  Apparently it can play tunes directly off the cards.  Never tried it since the internal 20GB HD is plenty of space for me so far.

Not sure if you can download wav to this and then listen to it. Looks like a nice all in one. Been eyeing one for a long time.
