Topic: bad right channel, h0ow do I duplicate right using Audacity???

hey all. so I used my Zooms built in mics to stealth at The Beacon this weekend. Unfortunately because of the spot I was able to get, I had to clamp the deck so the mics were not in the best position. now I have a delay between my left and right channels. Whats the easoiest way for me to fix this? I have a decent source for a show alot of folks here will want, just need to fix it ASAP. I am using Audacity. I am not GREAT at using it yet. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure I understand the problem.  The Zoom's built-in mics are oriented XY, aren't they?  Which means there shouldn't be a substantial time-arrival difference (delay) from one channel to the next.  Post a short WAV sample?

hey Brian, indeed they are, but unfortunately the only way I could miount was so that the mics were positioned vertically instead of horizontally. Im assuming this is what caused the problem. Anyway, how can I fix this?

You can either host it off-site (like yousendit or some such), or trim it down to below the file size limit indicated in the Additional Options section when posting.

Im not hearing the delay as much now. take a listen ya'll. lemme know what you think. As soon as I figure this out, i will transfer and post show (Levon Helm Band 3/16/07 @ The Beacon-NYC). Like I said this is not an amazing recording, but from what im seeing (and what I hear about another persons batteries dying), this may be the only source. Anyone seen one?

There isn't a time-delay across the two channels.  Not a huge level difference across channels, either (min: .15 dB, max 1.41 dB, Avg RMS .62 dB, Tot RMS .63 dB).  In checking out a quick frequency analysis, it does seem the R channel is significantly stronger, in some cases -much- stronger (6-12+ dB).  Perhaps this is the cause of the off sound?  I'm grasping, here, in over my head.  At any rate, I definitely can hear what you're talking about, it does sound a bit off.

Any chance L = up, R = down?  To my ears, R seems to have more, but less defined low end, a bit muddy, causing me to guess it's pointing down.

other way around actually. L-Down R-Up. Any suggestions in what I should do here? I think I should pick a side and duplicate it. What do you think. And thanks so much for your time and input...

Not sure turning it into mono will yield optimal results, but yes - Audacity will do this:

• From the track menu (upside down black triangle next to track / file name), select Split Stereo Track
  
• For each track, now labelled Left and Right, select from the track menu Mono
  
• Play back each mono track independently to see which you prefer
• Delete the track you don't want to keep
• Export the remaining Mono track to WAV
