Mic questions / recommendations
« on: August 20, 2007, 04:37:33 AM »
Hi,

Being a silent reader of the forums for a while, must say this is a Walhalla for tapers. Wow.
I don't tape too often, but try to get some shows here and there.

I've been using a Sony MZRH10 minidisc and (not certain:$) some Core Sounds binurals. Omni's, I guess. Outside the SCB sound great though. Much richness, lots of bass..
Thing is they give me in smaller halls too much bass and make the result sound boomy/ lots of echo. As far as I understand now, much is to be gained when one is using cardiods at these places. So I'm very interested in those so called stealthy cardiods. Have a couple of questions though;

1 Will cardiods indeed give me less bass and less echoing in smaller venues?
2 The omnis I've been using do the job just perfectly while plugged in the input 'MIC (plug in power)', there is also an input jacket called 'LINE IN (opt)'.
Will I need a pre-amp for it, or can I just use them as I used the omnis (IE plugged in the MIC IN)?
3 Will I need a bass roll-off or something? I prefer to keep the rig as small as posible (stealth IS an issue for me).
4 Chris, what cardiods could you suggest me in the price range of $200? And will you ship to The Netherlands?

Thanks in advance,
Regards
Robbert

/edit
Forgot to mention I usually tape loud shows.
Any help would be more than welcome, thx.

Hey Slap,

+T for coming here, and for taping in Europe! Since this question is more related to mics, perhaps you can ask a moderator (Bri) to move this post to the mic subforum, you'll receive more answers there!
