I've been trying to do this 4 track matrix thing...syncing my A/D converters via SPDIF...

It seems to work when I test at home...and I have sucessfully done this in the field...

However - I have had two failures - and they both involved Soundcraft boards...

PROBLEM: NO SIGNAL at the Behringer 2496 A/D...on both occasions - this AD was being fed from a Soundcraft XLR out...

The fact that both times this setup has failed involved Soundcraft boards has me thinking they are the culprit (although I'm ready to be convinced something is up the the cheap Behringer A/D)

Soundcraft Board > Behringer A/D - NO SIGNAL?

Whats happening here? Using balanced XLRs - twice now I can get no signal from a Soundcraft board...

This mixer looked kinda like a GB2 sizewise but only had two red faders and one yellow...

I've used this a/d a lot without issues...

Was the volume on the matrix send turned up?

I know he had the red faders up sufficiently to have some gain...I was coming out of the XLR mains. Is the matrix send involved there? They were using the yellow mono fader for the PA...

I also tried some 1/4 inch "tape out" (or something...i forget how it was labled) - no dice.

OK, I just assumed (my mistake) that they were using the XLR Matrix, didnt realize they were running the mains out of the mono send.  Were the channels routed to L/R or to groups (you can route the signal with little buttons down near the bottom of the fader)?  If the channels were only routed to groups and then the groups weren't routed to the mains that would cause a similar problem.

When using these small soundcraft mixers go out of the 2trck record outputs.. They have a separate level control and you can buss a signal from the subgroups or left and right.

XLR digital is AES, not SPDIF, which is on RCA connector.
Sennheiser 418s>SDMixPre-D>RO9HR
Beyer MC930>Fostex FM3>NagraSD
Couple of Schoeps CMT441 too.

I made another post about this problem here:

http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,89009.0.html

This one narrows down the problem a bit more specifically.
Mostly likely something not punched up right at the board...just a coincidence that I've encountered the same model in the same setup/application - thus the same problem...

the 4 track stuff I mentioned is probably irrelevant, and confusing the issue...sorry bout that.
