Topic: Flac fingerprint file problem

So...for some reason, I'm totally losing my mind.  I recorded a show on Sunday, did my business, and tried to torrent on Dime.  When I complete the entry Dime kicks it back and says that it does not identify a fingerprint file.  Thing is, I did the fingerprint like I always do- fingerprint saved in a .txt file on it's own.  What the hell am I not remembering?

I feel like a letch.  I've torrented tons of flac stuff, but don't seem to recall how to do this.  Damn...I wonder if all the years of LSD have come back to haunt me.

So here's something interesting I noticed.  When I encoded my wav to flac, the files were saved as Windows Media Files.  I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but when I add those files to the FLAC set to make the fingerprint, the fingerprint file automatically saves as a .txt file.  I totally feel like I'm losin' it....hopefully someone can help.

That's why I'm losing my mind though...how do you do this?  I have always loaded the FLAC files, then "fingerprinted" them, and they saved correctly.

I don't think you need a .ffp   

My ffp and info files are titled like this.... never had a problem....

Yeh...that's what I do.  When I try to upload the torrent to Dime, it says there is no recognized ffp file.  I swear...I'm losing it.  Any other ideas?

btw Mark...you're the only guy I know who creates his files BEFORE the show

heh heh heh...   Can ya tell I'm excited for NWSS?  Man oh man.  Another fest.
I must be crazy.  I'm only about a 3rd of the way through Pickathon transfers
and am at the 23 hour mark for recorded music thus far.  Yowzers. 
Now I get to do it again.  lol  But it helps being able to write directly to
my external.  Saves a ton of time.  Did I mention how much I love the 744? 
Not sure what the issue is on Dime.  Well I do but it doesn't relate to your problem.

Alright...now I'm just damn frustrated.  Here is what I have done:

- Recorded show
- Transferred from R4 to laptop using all the standard methods
- Tracked and converted to FLAC
- Created two .txt files
     (1) Info file
     (2) Fingerpring file

When I try to upload to DIME, I get the following message:

Upload action failed!

A checksum file (.md5, .ffp) was not found in your torrented data or it was too small for a valid checksum file. DIME requires you to include such a file to your torrented data. See FAQ.


I really don't know what is wrong with this.  I've uploaded a ton of shows, and never had this issue.  Please help!!!!

Dime is so lame...  WTF?

DIME is rejecting my torrent of FLAC files because the fingerprint file has a name ending in .txt or .ffp.txt instead of .ffp. What can I do?

under Windows
Speek's Flac Front-End for Windows and Mike Wren's modification of it force a .txt filetype extension when they save a file of fingerprints. If you specify a name ending in .ffp, Flac Front-End just adds ".txt" after that and you get a name ending in .ffp.txt.

Unfortunately, by default Windows is configured to hide filename extensions and not to let you change them. (As a result, if the filename ends in .ffp.txt, you'll see only “.ffp” and you may think it's OK, except that its icon will be the one for the .txt filetype.) Here are some ways to take care of that:

Set Folder Options in Windows not to hide filename extensions for known filetypes, and then rename the file to a name that ends in .ffp instead.
Open the .txt file with Notepad, select File->Save As, and save a copy with a name that ends in .ffp. This works even if Windows’ Folder Options are still set to hide filename extensions. You can then delete the original .txt file of fingerprints that Flac Front-End created.
Use Pierre-Marie Devigne's Filetype Changing Add-on,
or
Create your fingerprint files with Robert Hoffmann's Trader's Little Helper, which uses the correct extension.

O.K....that helped.  I created the ffp with TLH, but it saved the fingerprint as a flac file (?).  I went back and did it as an md5, and everything worked fine.  I don't know what has changed since my last torrent...very weird.

when you name your ffp just type .ffp at the end...like this...fsm2007-06-15.ffp. works every time

i don't add an extension to text(info) files. this is how i name mine...info file first

fsm2007-06-15
fsm2007-06-15.ffp

when someone opens the fileset, it's obvious which is the info file and which is the fingerprint file.
