B & W speaker question
« on: October 24, 2007, 03:13:45 PM »
Does anyone know if there is a difference in appearance in the 600 series 2 and series 3 speakers?

I'm trying to track down a center speaker to match my 604s2's...then will work my way to the back.

have you contacted B&W about a replacement cone?
I'm not sure if that was what you are looking for but I know I contacted them a while back about a cone in a speaker and if they still sell a replacement; at which they replied they do still have them.
I still need that cone too..

All have kevlar cones.

I think you are correct.

I think Damon had S2's when he was living in DC? Might try reaching out to him (if you can find him).

I have the B&W CC6 to match my 601s1 and I do not like it at all. Very one-dimensional and mono sounding. I end up with very loud sound through my front l/r, but the center has the vocals panned so hard to the center that it just sounds mono to me. I can't seem to get that big image with a solid balance. So I tossed the CC6 and told my 3000es that I do not have a center speaker (it will then downmix the center to l/r). It preserves the image beautifully about 95% of the time. There are a few movies in which the vocal track is so low you need a center to push it up to audible levels. However, as this happens so infrequently, it really is not much of an issue. I really think that quad is the way to go (for me). With my system, it simply sounds better.

FWIW, B&W is great about replacement parts - shipped timely at a great price.

If  you HT receiver has the option to downmix the center (if there isn't one), give it a go. I was pleaseantly surprised.
