Clamping Sony M10 to mic stand?
« on: March 03, 2015, 03:21:17 PM »
Hey Everyone,

I am getting ready for a couple of shows this weekend and am hoping to mount my decks right to the stand. I have a Manfrotto super clamp, and I've screwed one of the decks onto that and it seems quite stable. I'd like to also mount the Sony to the stand. Can anyone recommend a good clamp? -I can always get another Superclamp - but they are pretty heavy and bulky, so I was just wondering if anyone knew of something simple, lightweight and stable that I can clamp to the pole and screw the M10 onto?
I'll attach pics and will try to rotate them properly.

The stand pictured, btw, is the Surefoot stand that I posted in reply on another thread http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=171866.msg2130019#msg2130019

With as light as an M-10 is a nano clamp is overkill. Something cheaper can be found on ebay. Even a gorilla pod should hold an M-10 with no problems.

I'd just use a Windtech clamp and put a 5/8 to 1/4 adapter on it so it can screw into the back of the M-10

Both good solutions. Thanks. I can't see specs on the Windtech. Do you know if they're lighter than the Manfrotto?

I actually had one of those Gorilla stands lying around - its not as secure as I'd like, but the M10 is very light and I kind of like that I can face it upward a bit so its easier to monitor the levels during the show…

If you want to reduce the weight on the stand, try one of these:

Mics: 3 Zigma Chi HA-FX (COL-251, c, h, o-d, o-f) / Avenson STO-2 / Countryman B3s
Pres: CA-Ugly / Naiant Tinyhead / SD MixPre
Decks: Roland R-44 / Sony PCM-M10
GAKables
Dead Muppets

Man. I can't win with the photo orientation

By viewing the image properties I see you're using an iphone. Hold it horizontal instead of vertical and the resulting image should be oriented for best viewing on ts once attached. The downside is you'll get extra side info and less vertical info in the image.

Thanks for the feedback. (I'll try that next time with the iPhone)
The cheap motorcycle camera mounts do look like they'd work great. I actually ordered a couple from the link that flipp provided http://www.ebay.com/itm/400527719238
They're so inexpensive it's certainly worth a shot. Thank You flipp!
I also came across this on the Manfrotto site http://www.manfrotto.com/product/24329.56.76812.76949.0/MC1990A/_/Pico_Clamp_-_Max2Kg%2C_%26Phi%3B%3D8_to_15mm%2C_14_and_38_attach.
Although it will only open to about .59"

If those handlebar clamps prove to be too flimsy, check ebay fo a less expensive alternative to the Manfrotto nano. But then they may be no better than the handlebar clamps. Like I say, ebay is a crap shoot.

How about a simple Minerallac conduit hanger? Put a wing nut on the clamp and attach with a 1/4-20 screw. You can get them at any HD or Lowes. Not exactly "professional" but very functional.

I use these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JNTP0AE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to attach the M10 or spare batteries for other gear, and I've used them to mount cameras and phones. Very handy and cheap and the grip is solid.
