I am at wits end with the UA5>JB3.
« on: February 09, 2004, 08:28:06 AM »
First, I am very thankful to all who have helped out so far.  So my sincere thanks to all who gave input.  I am sure you are all sick of seeing me post about his, but....

I am frustrated beyond belief.  I got this unit (JB3) because I thought it was less maintenance than the laptop.

I "dremmeled" the JB3 above the Optical/Line-in.  And I still get nothing but silence in my recordings.

I made sure all the buttons/switches on the UA5 were set right.  I also made sure the JB3 was set correctly as well.

If anyone can help a brotha out...thanks in advance.

One step at a time.  I think it's premature to blame the JB3 at this point (though I admit I haven't followed every post in these threads, so maybe the JB3 is the issue, after all.).  I'd first confirm the self-modded UA5 is functioning properly, and then worry about getting the JB3 fired up.  So, next steps:

[1] test the coax output to any device to see if it works
[2] test the optical output to any non-JB3 device to see if it works

Once we've confirmed [1] and [2] are operational, then we'll tackle the JB3.

OK.  How can I test the coax out?  I did the test where you power up, take the optical out cover off, and then swicth between coax and optical and make sure the optical light is on...and that worked.

How can I test the coax?

Thanks.

I saw that...didn't know that was you.  I may have to try it.

After opening the UA5, I notice that my solder job may be a bit much.  I looks like there may be a tad more solder than I need.  I think the USB line is cut pretty well.

UPDATE:  With the help of a student we plugged the UA5 into the SBD here at school.  When we went Coax Output on the left, we got a signal in the SBD.  When we went Coax out/Digital we got nothing...looks like I gotta solder again...YAY!!
