Topic: transfering cass masters ???'s

so I agreed to TRY and transfer a couple cass master that aren't in circulation.  I've never done it but want to try and learn.  would it be best to go cass master > dat > then to pc?  or cass master > audiophile 24/96 > pc?  it's be nice to go cass > v3  for the ad, but there are no rca's on the v3.  also I've heard I could pass the signal through my da20mkII to digitize it'  sorry for all the questions.  I assume record at 44 in soundforge or wavelab if going directly from cass instead of dat?

There are a few threads on this topic.  I don't have time to find em for you.
I go directly from Cassette to the pC.  However, I think going to DAt works for a few different purpposes.  Such as, Are you going to have time to do the complete cass>>PC transfer.  If not, You may want to pit in on DAt to ensure that you only have to play the cassette once.
Same goes for how sure you are of your transferring technique.  If there is a possibility that you may have to do a "re transfer" for any reason, you might want to go CASS>>DAT so that uyou don't have tp play teh cassette more than once.

edit:  I should have said I go directly from cassette >> Echo Gina 24/96 outboard converter box>>Mac G-4 with dual 533 using PEAK BIAS VST.
this reduces any PC added noise.  especially since there is no PC involved!!

You can always use xlr/rca adaptors to get into the V3

yup.  this past weekend, I transferred an old cassette.  I went tape player > V3 (at 24/44.1) > waveterminal 2496 soundcard.

if possible, do the A/D conversion outside of your PC.  computers are noisy, and you're V3 will do a much better job at the conversion.  I recorded at 24 bit, so there would be less artifacts when I did some hiss reduction on it.  then I reduced the bit depth (with dither) to 16 bits and it was ready to be tracked out for CD.  but I kept the original 24/44.1 files, in case I ever want to revisit and do it again (or differently)

thank y'all.  not sure I want to spend $30 buck for rca > xlr's to transfer two shows.  haven't heard back form the guy anyway.
