iPod firmware recording update?

I've seen some posts over at ipoding.com concerning some future firmware releases from Apple that hint at .wav recording capabilites coming to the iPod. Possibly somekind of line input through the dock connector. I just got the 20G version and find it to be pretty damn badass in design. It'd be great it Apple somehow included that as feature 'cause their design folks generally are on the money. Possibly some kind of S/PDIF -> iPod dock input connection?

there is a line in connector on the dock, however it looks to be a pain in the ass to use in the field. i have a 40 gig and love it for what it is- its great as a portable drive
