Topic: 24bit to 16bit

I recently bought and edirol r09-hr and recorded a show in 24 bit.Ive since been trying to downsample it to 16bit,and used 8brainto do this .I opened the 24bit wav and this is what i have now after converting the file in 8brain and importing the converted file into gspot.Im pretty new,so patience would be appreciated.

Looks like you have a 16-bit, 44.1k file.  Odd that gspot doesn't show the bit-depth.  But we can derive it from the Bitrate field.

Bitrate = bit depth * sample rate * # of channels

Gspot shows bitrate of 1,411,000 (1,411 kb/s), sample rate of 44,100, and 2 channels (stereo).  So...

1,411,000 = bit depth * 44100 * 2

Solve for bit depth.  1,411,000 / 44,100 / 2 = 15.99*

* Close enough! The result in this calculation isn't quite 16 because Gspot isn't precise in its display of bitrate.  The actual bitrate for 16/44 is 1,411,200, but Gspot displays it simply as 1,411 kbs, or 1,411,000.

If your goal was to have a 16-bit, 44.1 kHz WAV file (CD format), yes.

I don't know what you're using for general editing, but you can also do this very easily in Audacity by setting the "Project Rate" to 44.1 and then, when you export, setting the export rate to 16bit.
