Title: Mic cables - looking for something smaller
Post by: jdawg on May 27, 2005, 01:24:21 PM
Currently using "Monster Performer 500" XLR mic cables. They're working just fine for me, however they take up so much room in the bag and I'd like to find something smaller or rather thinner. But of course I wouldn't want to sacrifice quality or the relative quality to what I'm running now. So I'm just looking for some other options.

thanks!

strongly recommended and endorsed by many here are
our very own leegeddy's miagi II's bumblebee cables. Very thin and light.

agreed, i have a 20' pair of the bumblebee cables marc made(actually the first 'really thin' pair i believe) vut anyway, the 20' pair rolls up to a 7 inch diameter, thats it :) the heaviest things are the neutriks ;D

and the sound blows away my old audio magic x-streams though i never did an A/B comp, theyre SOOO much cleaner and detailed, and theyre 100% Handmade w/ Quality

spend the $$ and get them, your tapes will thank you ;D 8)

John check into the Audio Magic Hyper-Conductor cables I use, sonicsense.com sells them, they are tiny and so skinny they look like most active cables, not cheap but the best I have used, you can get them with right angle connectors too, they are awesome and sound even better

fwiw - leegeddy's cables are very, very similiar to the hyper-conductor cables.... he'll also customize the connections for you, on top of that you'll save a few bucks and support a fellow taper

The Bumblebee MiAGi-II cables from leegeddy are the damn near the same size as the Hypers.  I believe the only difference is the TechFlex. You'd have to ask leegeddy but I think the wire itself it the same size and may be the same cable.  While AudioMagic has been in business for a while, leegeddy's cables really are outstanding.  He will definately get my money before AudioMagic for sure!

John R got my money since I bought them used from him, but they will roll up into a much smaller coil than 7 inches, easily, I'd say 4 inches to five inches for each 20 feet cable

Based on a number of factors, it looks like I'll go with leegeddy's cables. Now if only someone would buy my D8!  :-\
Looks like it may be time to ebay it.

At the low end of the scale, there's always mini star quad. I made up some cables with this stuff and have no complaints.

The Mini Quad is a very nice Low Cost option IMO . and for just about $.75 a ft you can move upto Sliver clad Copper cable which will be next for me.

I just got done building a set of mini's (which will prolly end up in the yard sale after I finish the silver clad's.)

Next will be 99.999% silver IC's .. Litz braided .That will hopefully look something like this
