Title: Advice on 8 cell NiMH AA charger?
Post by: Chuck on March 01, 2006, 10:07:50 AM
So I have the LaCrosse charger that does the refresh/ diagnoisis etc... but it takes FOREVER to charge 8 cells...
I need a good fast 8 NiMH AA cell charger. Any recommendations?

I bought this one a couple days ago.  I'll get it on Monday.  It has an hour quick charge and 2 hour soft charge.

I really like this thing.  Hour quick charge, 2 hour soft charge (for max battery life).  The conditioning takes a while, but worth it in the long run.

Yes, the Maha CH-801D is definately the way to go. It has the best proecssor in the industry for a "soft charge", as well as the best conditioning for recovering, or increasing the longevity of batteries. All Maha units (4 or 8 cell) are very reliable in terms of knowing you truly have a good charge when the charger says so. I used to be nervous about "mission critical" recordings and using nimh batteries. Now, with the Maha chargers and Energizer AA (2500 mah), I am pretty darn confident.

The Maha chargers seem to be recommended more than the LaCrosse ones in all the reviews I have seen in photography type magazines.

What are folks experience with 2500 mah AA's and the ACM 671 w/ phantom power on? How many hours can I RELIABLY expect? Have people found better quality AA batteries than the Mahaenergy or the Energizers?

The one night I relied on the NiMH's alone (didn't carry the lead) I had a failure, so I haven't totally relied on the NiMH yet in my 671.
Doug Oade recommended the Duracell AA NIMH 2500 mAh, so I got 8 of them. Four are in the LaCrosse charging right now.

I got these. Haven't used them yet. They are conditioning in the 801 right now.
