it could be done, but the deck is not exactly tiny.  smaller than the tascam you are currently running, but still kinda thick.

here is the size:  57(H) x 206(W) x 132(D) mm
AKG ck3/ck8 | c460b  + Naiant Actives | PFAs
Audio Technica u853r (omnis/mini-guns)
Tascam DR-70D

if you can crotch a 722, you can crotch a fr2le. they are damn near the same size.

Although not terribly large, I wouldn't want to try and use it as a stealth deck. I have had one for a few months now with a Oade basic mod and love the deck for the price. Very good metering and I love that it uses RC type batteries which make battery life a non-concern. Some people have complained about the battery door being flimsy, but I haven't had any issues with it and find it adequate. I think it one hell of a unit for for its price.

Battery door is only an issue if you have the sled in upside down or haven't tucked the wires out of the way properly.  Once I figured out which way it goes in... no problems at all.

Love the little bugger.

I've being using the RC tamiya batteries exclusively. They fit nicely into the battery compartment. There is a opening to stuff the extra battery lead wires into that can be a bit touchy, but not really an issue. There also a recession for the tamiya connector which allows the  battery to sit properly into the compartment.
