Zoom Q2HD camcorder
« on: July 16, 2012, 09:33:34 AM »
Zoom has announced a new audio/video recorder, the Q2HD.  On the audio side, it features a mid/side mic array. Price will be $200, shipping later this Summer.

The mid-side stuff seems to be a smart solution...unfortunately I think this device doesn't feature any line-mic input for external mics.

You're right, and that's the biggest let-down of the new gizmo regarding its old brother (Q3 HD)... Anyway, if the internals are near as good as the Q3HD's, it will make some better-than-expected recordings nonetheless.

I played with these devices at CES earlier this year and I found them to be subpar IMO.  The video capture was alright, however, the audio and build quality left much to be desired.  YMMV

Really? I found the audio to be above average for a device in this price range, and video was its weakest point. Still it was fine for a $150-200 recorder with everything built-in, capable to do HD video AND 24bit lossless audio at the same time.

(I'm speaking of the Q3HD - I have no experience with the Q2HD whatsoever)
